Although the Rhode Island area is famous for its wreck diving, it is also well known for its excellent spearfishing. Capt Dave is an avid freediver, and is able to provide guided spearfishing trips targeting trophy Striped Bass as well as Tautog (Blackfish), Bluefish, and Tuna (in season).

Diving an area ranging from the Massachusetts Line, south to Watch Hill Rhode Island, across to Fishers Island New York, and continuing to Montauk Point NY and Block Island, Rhode Island, we have access to the worlds finest Striped Bass spearfishing. We support freediving-only as an ethical method of spearfishing, and do not permit spearfishing for this species on SCUBA of any sort.
EXPLORER can be used as a Mother-Ship and Accommodation for spearfishing charters. Diving is done out of either a 15 foot Avon inflatable, or the more capable 17 foot Boston Whaler. The Whaler is fitted with speargun racks, GPS/Bottom Sounder, and has been specially fitted for freediving. Carrying a maximum of two divers plus Captain, she is perfectly suited for the task. With a range of over 100 miles from her launch spot, we can find fish no matter where they swim in our waters.
Freediving/Spearfishing Training

Freediving Training and Spearfishing Training is available upon request. Loaner/Rental spearguns and equipment are also available, as are repair parts and and expert rigging services for most spearguns. We have a cooperative arrangement with a local dive shop specializing in spearfishing equipment, and have local access to a wide selection of Riffe, Rob Allen, Sporasub, Picasso, Yazbeck, Biller, and Darryl Wong spearfishing equipment and accessories.
