Capt. Dave Sutton has been diving since 1966, and was born into a family of divers and professional mariners. His earliest experiences afloat were with his Grandfather on a 17 foot boat named SCUBA, at age two, so it all started early. Dave?s Father was a US Coast Guard Officer, who retired only after 39 years of service, so it may fairly be said that he was born with salt water in his veins.
He attended the Florida Institute of Technology and earned a degree in Underwater Technology, and was employed by Santa Fe Diving Services in the Gulf of Mexico before spending two seasons in Antarctica as a member of the United States Antarctic Research Program, where he was the Boating Coordinator at Palmer Station.
Returning to civilization, he worked as a commercial diver and ran a dive shop for some seven years before embarking on a career as a professional aviator.
Now working as a Test Pilot when not aboard EXPLORER, Capt Dave is a US Coast Guard Licensed Merchant Marine Officer, holding a Masters License for Steam and Motor Vessels, with a Commercial Towing Endorsement.
As a diver, Dave has been involved in Technical Diving since the inception of the sport. In 1978
